Franklin Roosevelt Daugherty, affectionately known as "Roosevelt" or "Frank," passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 86. A man of charm, generosity, and impeccable style, Frank left behind a legacy defined by love, connection, and creativity.
Born on May 14, 1939, in Beattyville, Kentucky, Frank was the son of Wayne and Nettie Daugherty. The heart of a large and close-knit family, he is survived by his daughter Cynthia Andrews and son-in-law Clint Andrews, his son Gregory Daugherty, his sister Eleanor Adams and dozens of nephews and nieces, including Ramona Kay and Carla Jean. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sandra, and his many brothers and sisters who went before him - June, Bill, Mary Byrd, Paul Herschel, Wayne Jr., Bob, Tommy, Johnny, and Dennis.
Frank married the love of his life and mother of his two children Sandra Agee, in 1964, and though later separated, they remained friends and together were the greatest examples of faith and forgiveness to all that knew them. He was heartbroken when cancer took her in 1986, but the Lord sent him a second angel, Bertie Atley, to whom he was happily married for a decade while residing in Florida. Professionally, Frank achieved early success in sales and real estate before retiring as a beloved Walmart greeter and the most well-known crossing guard at Hill Elementary in Central Austin. His bright smile and kind words brought joy to countless children and parents daily.
Frank loved cooking and decorating - especially during the holidays - and always had music playing on his state-of-the-art stereo. A man of creativity, he designed distinctive denim handbags and delighted in sharing them with friends. He adored his cat, Olaf, who was his favorite movie-watching lap cat that was by his side until the end. Rest assured Frank was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ his entire life and will be blessed for his good deeds and shall now "dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Psalm 27:4
A Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Cynthia and Clint Andrews on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 4:00pm to 10:00 p.m., where friends and family will gather to honor the extraordinary life of Franklin Roosevelt Daugherty. Please send any correspondence to 4206 Adelphi Ln, Austin, Texas 78727 or [email protected].
