Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation ServicesFranklin Donald “Don” Shaw, age 85, formerly of Cherryville, NC, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2025. Don was born on April 22, 1940, in Richlands, NC, to the late Franklin Dee and Nina Farrior Shaw.
After graduating from Richlands High School, Don proudly served in the United States Air Force. He graduated from the University of Hawaii, where he met Diana Kurtz Shaw, his wife of 46 years. Don and Diana moved to Cherryville, where Don worked at Carolina Freight for 17 years in multiple accounting roles before serving as a divisional CFO. Don was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville where he held positions including Deacon, Elder, and president and teacher of the Men’s Bible class. Don was honored by the church with the title of Elder Emeritus, for his faithful and distinguished service. He was also a member and past president of the Cherryville Rotary Club.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Diana Kurtz Shaw; sisters, Christine Shaw Koonce, and Olive Ann Shaw Downing; and son-in-law, Jim Rosengrant.
Don is survived by his daughter, Kelly Shaw Rosengrant, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; son, Curt Shaw, of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jimmy Rosengrant, Emma Shaw, and Ethan Shaw; and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Don Shaw will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville. Visitation will follow in the Lowe Family Life Center. Don will be privately inurned at the First Presbyterian Columbarium, next to his wife Diana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church – 107 W Academy St, Cherryville, NC 28021.
