Fred "Buddy" Darland, 78, husband of the late Andrea Janelle Doyle Darland, died Friday, June 13, 2025 at Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born April 2, 1947 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Onus and Carrie Watts Darland. He was retired from Kentucky State Hospital and Northpoint Training Center where he served as a Sargeant. He was a member of Burgin Church of God, loved NASCAR, building race cars and being a shade tree mechanic.
Survivors include his three daughters: Lisa Howell of Weatherford, TX, Penny (Scott) Upton of Lincoln County, and Mary (John) Pike of Mitchellsburg; three sisters: Judy McFarland of Owensboro, Ima Lane of Lexington, and Teresa Coffman of Lincoln County; two brothers: Jimmy Darland of Burgin and Leroy (Marlene) Darland of Mercer County; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his son Mark Darland; two grandchildren: Laney Darland and Galvin Glaze; two brothers: Billy Darland and Howard Darland; and one nephew Tommy Darland.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Travis Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Luke Pike, John Pike, Dakota Phillips, Scott Upton, Richard Justice, and Jimmy Lee serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be William "Shorty" Darland and Timmy Darland.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
