Fred Everett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Funeral Home - Corydon on Aug. 11, 2023.
Fred Daniel Everett was born near Lockridge, Iowa on January 27, 1936 and passed away from this life on August 8, 2023. His sister, Lillie, remembers him as a good big brother who would always protect his younger siblings and make them do their chores so they wouldn't get into trouble. He attended Lockridge High School and then joined the army.
He met the love of his life, Brenda Denney, in Fairfield, Iowa while on leave. She worked at an ice cream shop and got reprimanded by her boss for making his sundaes too large. They were married on February 11, 1961. Their daughter Kelley was born in 1962 and soon after he was transferred to a base in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1964. They made their home in Fairfield where Daniel David was born in 1965 and Robert Michael in 1966.
Fred accepted the Lord as his savior during a revival meeting at a little country church and was active in church until his health prevented him from doing so. Some of his last words were "I just want to go be with Jesus".
Fred was a wonderful dad, husband, and provider. He worked very hard all his life at the Iowa Malleable Iron Company and the Dexter Company in Fairfield. He was also a car mechanic and had a shop in his garage where he worked after his day in the factory. He spent many weekends roofing houses and never had an idle moment.
After he retired, they bought an acreage near Pleasant Plain where he had fruit & nut trees and a huge garden. He kept beautiful flower beds, lawn, and gardens were his pride and joy. He always said "the worst day outside is better than the best day inside". The grandkids all have magical memories staying with them at the old farm house, tractor rides on "Alice", picking veggies in the summer, and raking leaves in the fall.
When the place became too hard for them to care for, they bought a house in Corydon to be close to family. The Corydon Community embraced them whole-heartedly and they attended the First Baptist Church. Fred always said the Wayne County Hospital was the best hospital he'd ever been in.
Fred loved Folgers instant coffee, mowing the yard, feeding his birds, ice cream, and visits from his grandkids and great-grandkids. He and Brenda enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs baseball and Iowa Hawkeye sports.
To his family, Fred left a legacy of a strong faith in Jesus, hope of Heaven, a diligent work ethic, love of nature, faithfulness to his family and a penchant for ice cream.
Left here to miss him until we are together again is his wife of 63 years, Brenda, daughter Kelley (David) Alexander of Russell; sons Dan(Amy) Everett of Xenia, Ohio, Bob (Sara) Everett of Dayton, Ohio; sister Lillie Pottsmith of Aurora, Washington. Grandchildren include Nathan (Heidi) Alexander, Nic (Tiffany) Alexander, Bethany Alexander, and Ryan Barrameda Shawna (Justin) Hopkins, Emily (Aaron) Rausch, Allison (Kyle) Morse, Will (Emily) Everett, Amanda Everett, and Bradley Frazier; 14 great-grandchildren also enriched his life greatly.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM, Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will take place Sunday, August 13, 2023 with the family greeting friends from 2-3PM. Memorials have been established to the First Baptist Church Missions and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Fred Everett Family, 303 East Jefferson, P.O. Box 294 Corydon, Iowa 50060.
