Fred Golove Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home on Jan. 15, 2026.
Fred Stanley Golove, age 86, of Stamford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with multiple cancers.

Fred was born on January 2, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, to Edward and Juliet Golove. He attended Yeshiva Rambam for elementary school, Yeshiva of Central Queens for middle school, and Martin Van Buren High School. Fred often enjoyed telling the story of how he graduated high school on a Friday and on the following Monday morning, his father put him on a train to New London, CT, where he entered the U.S. Coast Guard Academy-a commitment that reflected his lifelong sense of duty. He proudly graduated from the Academy in June 1961.

Shortly after graduation, Fred married his first wife, Ellen Hyams. They were married for ten years and had two children, Sharon and Robert. Fred served six years on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard before transitioning to the reserves, while simultaneously beginning a long and successful career at IBM.

Fred later married his beloved wife, Sandra Sneideman, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Jessica, Michael and Daniel. Fred often joked that he had "five children born in five different states," a fact he found endlessly amusing.

Over the course of a distinguished 30-year career, Fred rose through the ranks of the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring as a two-star Rear Admiral in 1991-one of his proudest accomplishments. Semper Paratus!

Fred was deeply patriotic, an avid reader, and a passionate historian. He was profoundly proud of his Jewish heritage and devoted significant time and leadership to the Jewish community. He served as a Vice President of the Jewish Community Center, President of Temple Beth El and, as a strategic planner, on its Board. He was also past president and a board member of the Jewish Historical Society of Fairfield County.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy Golove; his children, Sharon (Steven) Ritz, Robert (Beth) Golove, Jessica (Jon) Bradley, Michael (Liz) Golove, and Daniel Golove; his nine grandchildren, Adam, Joshua (Liz), and Noah Ritz; Austin and Dawson Golove; Sammi and Grant Bradley; and Nathan and Ella Golove; his sister, Rebecca (Andrew) Lehrfeld; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Juliet Golove.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ted Listokin as well as Dr. Anthony Gulati, Nurse Practitioner Lauren O'Keefe, the entire Bennett Cancer Center team and Constellation Health Services for their compassion, care, and dedication to Fred.

Fred's funeral will be held on Friday, January 16th at 1 p.m. at Temple Beth El in Stamford, Connecticut. Shiva information will be posted in his online obituary on the Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home website at www.gallagherfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers, Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital, Temple Beth El, Jewish Historical Society of Fairfield County, or a charity of one's choice.

Services are under the care of Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home located at 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, CT 06902. For online condolences please visit Gallagherfuneralhome.com
