Freddie Byron Coakley, 83, of Versailles, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 23, 1941, in Greensburg, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of Henry and Noma Doris Coakley.
Freddie was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Coakley; his son, Paul Coakley; daughter-in-law, Dana Coakley; daughter, Tricia Coakley; and his sister, Betty Ann Crain (Allan). His warmth, kindness, and unwavering generosity will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A dedicated and hardworking man, Freddie was part of the flagship crew at the opening of Rand McNally in Versailles in 1962 and remained there until his retirement. Never one to stay idle, he continued to give back to his community through his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and as the founder of Coakley Framing, a home business in which he took great pride.
Freddie was known for his infectious sense of humor and his boundless kindness. Whether through small gestures or grand acts, he always sought to brighten the lives of those around him. His generosity extended beyond his family and friends, often surprising strangers with unexpected acts of goodwill.
A man of deep faith, Freddie attended First United Methodist Church in Frankfort, Kentucky. He and Betty served on several mission trips to Central America where the team built and repaired churches and schools for the communities. His life was a testament to love, service, and compassion.
Funeral Services will be conducted at noon on Monday, April 14 at Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home, Versailles, KY. Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Floydsburg Cemetery, Crestwood, KY at 2:15pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Freddie's honor to Woodford Habitat for Humanity, continuing his legacy of helping others find the warmth and security of home.
Freddie's kindness, humor, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be dearly missed. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolence and share memories here on Freddie's tribute wall.
