Frederic West, age 79, passed away peacefully at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Home in Stratford, Connecticut on January 13, 2026.
Born on December 21, 1946, in
Newark, New Jersey, Frederic lived a life of many passions. Growing up in
South Orange, NJ, he was known to family and close friends as Ricky. He maintained a nostalgia for his early years vacationing at the Jersey Shore and his childhood home on Meeker Street all throughout his life.
Fred attended the University of Bridgeport, where he proudly played basketball, carrying with him a lifelong love of sports. He received his Masters degree from St. John's University and went on to a successful career as a medical practice administrator for several large cardiology and gastroenterology practices. His career took him to Virginia, New Jersey, and finally back to Connecticut.
His passions extended well beyond his career and the court, as he became an avid collector of sports memorabilia, carefully curating pieces that told stories of greatness, history, and personal meaning. He was also a dedicated collector of artwork and photography, drawn to beauty, craftsmanship, and developed relationships with several artists. A man who truly enjoyed the finer things in life, Fred took pleasure in good food, even better wine, quality clothing, and great music which he loved to enjoy with family members.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry (Sharon) West and her daughters Heather Murphy, Shannon Dickerson and her husband Greg Dickerson; his son, Eric West, daughter-in-law, Kelly West; and his cherished grandchildren: Avery and Lia West, Michaela Murphy, and Cole Dickerson. He is also survived by his sister, Flora Lambert, and several nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was a constant source of pride and joy. He was predeceased by his parents, Abner and Dorothy West, and brother Robert West.
