Frederick Baatz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 31, 2024.
FREDERICK DAVID BAATZ
Frederick David Baatz, 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 28, 2024,
at Chandler Hall Nursing Home in Newtown, Pennsylvania. He was born November 22, 1946, in
Allentown, PA, to his parents, Raymond Thomas Baatz and Margaret Ida (Christman) Baatz.
Fred graduated from Parkland High School in Allentown, PA in 1964, followed by East Stroudsburg
University, at the time known as East Stroudsburg State College (ESSC), in 1968 with a teaching degree in
Mathematics and a minor in Psychology. He played three varsity sports – basketball, track & field, and
tennis. He was the first athlete at ESSC to play two varsity sports in the same season, track & field and
tennis. Later, he received his master's degree in Mathematics from Trenton State College.
As a dedicated teacher, he taught mathematics at the Neshaminy School District for 35 years, where he
coached basketball, track & field, and tennis. He was also a math tutor for many years.
During his summers off from teaching, he worked for Sky Plumbing and Heating Company for his
father-in-law and best friend Robert Salevesky.
Fred, also known as Freddy, David, Dave, Davie, Dad, Pap-Pap, Grooch, and The Tool Maker, loved
spending time with his family and fixing things in his workshop. We always said that he could fix
anything, even our bad days. He loved fishing with his family and friends, but his favorite places were
Blue Heron Lake, Newboro Lake in Canada, Lake Lenape, and Tyler State Park. Later in life, he loved
hanging out in his garage, drinking a beer, and snacking on chips and peanuts while Elvis played in the
background.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Susan
(Petrus) Baatz of Washington Crossing, PA; his oldest daughter, Erica (Baatz) Bridges and her husband
Chad Bridges and their two children Drew and Skye; his middle daughter Laura (Baatz) Bower and her
husband Jeff Bower and their two daughters Molly and Pyper; his youngest daughter Emily
Baatz-Bachmann and her husband Lance Bachmann and their three boys LJ, Greggy and Davie; and his
first wife, the mother of his children, Sharon (Salevsky) Baatz of New Hope, PA.
Donations in memory of Frederick David Baatz can be made to the Chandler Hall Nursing Home in

I was his student for algebra and geometry. Class of 79. We loved him. He was just cool. He was stern but friendly. I enjoyed him as a teacher. I also enjoyed seeing him at our doctor's office. It was nice to reminisce about the great times at Maple Point.
My condolences to his family and friends.
