Frederick J. DeJohn Jr.
October 15, 1944 - May 21, 2025
Frederick J. DeJohn Jr., 80, of New Castle, passed on May 21, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after a short illness.
Fred was born October 15, 1944, to the late Frederick J. DeJohn Sr. and Myrtle (Dout) DeJohn in New Castle, PA, the oldest of 10 children. Fred graduated from Mohawk High School in 1962 and attended Slippery Rock University for two years.
Fred led a very successful career in tax preparation owning several H&R Block franchises throughout the Pittsburgh area including in Coraopolis, McKees Rocks, Carlisle, and Jersey Shore, PA. He was an avid lover of plants, camping, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fox News, and collecting antiques.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Phyllis “Pepi” Pesce DeJohn of New Castle and their dog, Roman, her daughter Melissa (Michael) McConahy of New Castle, her grandchildren Amber (Nick) Kingman of Butler, PA, Allegra (Josh) McCrumb of New Castle, PA, and Tyler (Brenna) Assid of York, PA, and her 5 great-grandchildren, as well as his brother-in-law, Martin “Marty” Pesce and his mother-in-law, Betty Pesce, both of Ellwood City, PA.
Fred is also survived by his children, Frederick J. DeJohn IV, Anthony (Andrea) DeJohn, and Theresa (Frank Braid) DeJohn Daily, all of New Castle; his grandchildren Vincenzo (Nicolle) DeJohn, Nicolo (Rhiannon Welsh) DeJohn, Are’ana (Corey) Wilson, Frederick J. DeJohn V, and Mark A. Seamans, all of New Castle, PA, Morgan Daily of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dr. Marina (Kevin) Ellis of Frederick, MD; and his 7 great-grandchildren.
Fred is further survived by 8 of his siblings: Daniel (Tracy) DeJohn Sr., Randy (Evelyn) DeJohn Sr., David (Donielle) DeJohn, Timothy (Linda) DeJohn Sr., Sean DeJohn Sr., Judith (Timothy) Hoffman, Karen (Bill Velich) Stoner, and Deborah Wallace as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his father-in-law Phillip Pesce, brother Nicholas DeJohn Sr., nephew Patrick DeJohn, and sister-in-law Renee DeJohn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27th at William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home at 926 Cunningham Ave. New Castle, PA 16101 from 4 PM to 7 PM. Funeral services will follow at William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. The Reverend Richard Nero will officiate.
Fred will be greatly missed by all who knew him, from his clients and employees to his friends and family.
