Frederick O. Geier, Sr., 89, of Girard, died at 6:43 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Girard.
Fred was born November 3, 1934 in Pittsburg, a son of Fred and Jessie (O'Dell) Geier. He grew up and attended schools in rural Girard and graduated from Girard High School.
He married Charlotte Ann Shanholtzer on November 15, 1953 in Beulah, Kansas. Ann preceded him in death on January 2, 2023.
Fred was a farmer and later he worked for Walters Foundation Company in Paola. He was a loader operator for Midwest Minerals in Pittsburg and a school bus driver for USD 248 before retiring in 2020.
Fred was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pittsburg and the Gideons International. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, visiting with people in general, farming, and playing board games.
Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Lynn Taylor, and her husband, Steven, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; his sons, Frederick Owen Geier, Jr., and his wife, Jan, of Farlington, Kenneth L. Geier, and his wife, Kristi, of Girard, Jeffrey Dean Geier, and his wife, Patty, of Girard; daughter-in-law, Susan Geier, of Girard; 12 grandchildren; over 50 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Kay Herlocker, and her husband, Ronnie, of Farlington.
In addition to his wife, Fred was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven Eugene Geier, and his sisters, Carolyn Faye Timi and Rosemary Elizabeth Geier, and a brother, Don Geier.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Rev. Luke Oldweiler and Pastor Corey Estep officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Friday.
Memorials are suggested to the Liberty Baptist Church and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
