On February 12, 2025, Frederick Joseph Jaquay, completed his life's remarkable journey at Select Specialty Hospital in Wheeling, WV. Born on March 5, 1945, in Wheeling, Fred lived a full and inspiring 79 years.
Fred was a devoted citizen who served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. With a steadfast dedication to his work and community, he spent his professional life as a line crew supervisor for American Electric Power, ensuring the safety and reliability of power for countless individuals.
Fred's enthusiasm for life extended beyond his career; he was an avid Steelers fan-a passion he shared with many in his cherished Wheeling community. He was a proud member of numerous fraternal and service organizations, including the Wheeling Masonic Lodge #5, Scottish Rite, Osiris Shriners Hospital, and he served as Past Monarch for the El Tor Grotto. His spirit of camaraderie and service also shone through his membership with the Elm Grove Eagles, Warwood Veterans Association, and American Legion Post 1.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph and Cordelia (McGranahan) Jaquay; daughter-in-law, Nicole White Jaquay; sister-in-law, Marilyn Jaquay; father-in-law, George F. Pack, Jr.; and brother-in-law, David Merryman. His legacy lives on through his loving spouse, Janet (Pack) Jaquay of Wheeling, WV, and their cherished family: mother-in-law, Joan Pack; sons Todd (Allison) of Wheeling, Brian (Jamie) of Dallas Pike, and Ty (Lindsey) of Morgantown, WV. He is also survived by his sister Gertrude Merryman of Columbus, OH, brother George Jaquay of Warrenton, VA, and sister Joyce Perry of Charleston, WV.
Fred was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren-Gage, Lea, George, Michael, Oliver, Amelia, Shayne, Landon, Stryker, Tilly, Kaiya-and five great-grandchildren: Zyair, Jack, Emmett, Everly Ann, and Myles. His beloved fur babies Yukon, Simba, and Butterbean brought him joy and companionship.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Fred's life on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, with a Vigil Service at 7 pm, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 17 at 11 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Halcyon Hills Memorial Gardens, complete with full military honors, reflecting Fred's honorable service to his country.
