Frederick John Kappel, known fondly as Fred or Fritz to his friends and family, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 5, 2025, in his hometown of Milwaukee. Born on September 9, 1940 to the late Eugene and Helen Kappel, Fred was a lifelong resident of Milwaukee.
After High school he went on to work as a Machinist at AO Smith and Tower automotive where he developed a passion for tinkering with cars. His work was more than a job; it was a testament to his belief in the value of hard work and the importance of contributing to the world around him.
In his personal life, Fred was an avid car enthusiast. He found joy and relaxation in working on cars, a hobby that allowed him to express his mechanical ingenuity. His last chance garage was a haven of restoration projects and a gathering place for friends who shared his interest. Fred's skills and generous nature often led him to lend a helping hand to anyone in need of car repairs, advice, or just a friendly chat over an open hood. Cribbage was also a passion and you would often find him playing a few games on a Friday or Saturday evening with friends.
Those who knew Fred will remember his gentle demeanor and his unwavering kindness. He was the kind of person who would always put others before himself, offering support and warmth to all who crossed his path.
Fred's legacy lives on through his beloved family and friends. He is survived by his son, Tim Kappel and his wife Dana, his daughter, Debbie Hansing, His grandchildren, Adam Hansing and Natasha Tomasik, along with her husband Ben, his sister Betty Zacharias and her husband Gus along with many nieces and nephews. They will carry forward the values and love that Fred instilled in them. His family and friends was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He is proceeded in death by his parents Eugene and Helen Kappel and his brothers Eugene, William and James and his son in law Neil Hansing.
As we bid farewell to Frederick John Kappel, we reflect on a life well-lived, filled with love, generosity, and kindness. He was a beacon of light in the lives of those who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire us. Fred's departure leaves behind a void that will be felt by many, but the stories of his gentle spirit and his kind deeds will resonate for generations to come.
The family wishes to thank friends Mary Acker and Dennis Kay who were a great support over the last 4 months.
