Frederick F. Schwager Jr.

Frederick F. Schwager Jr., 87, peacefully entered eternal life on Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was born on August 24, 1937, in Hartford, CT to the late Frederick Sr. and Jean (Ambot) Schwager. Fred grew up in Connecticut and lived the last twenty-four years of his life in Westerly, RI.
He was the beloved husband of the late Madeline (Uradnecek) Schwager, having been together for over 64 years. Fred is survived by his four children: Jeffrey and wife Barbara, Lynne, Brian and wife Reanna, and Laura. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Tom and wife Meghan, Molly, Dylan, Ashlyn, Carly and husband Nic, Jennifer, Michael, Ryan, and his new great-grandson, William. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas, and his grandson Evan. Fred loved spending time with family and will be warmly remembered by all for his kind heart.
Unwavering in his Catholic Faith, he and his wife were parishioners of St. Clare Church in Westerly. They generously supported the parish and community by volunteering their time and doing whatever they could to help.
Fred graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint, MI then went right to work for New Departure Hyatt Bearings/GM in Bristol, CT where he spent 36 years. He always enjoyed a big vegetable garden and the work involved in preserving its bounty. There was usually a project in process around the house, and always a list of to-dos. In his later years, you were most likely to find Fred sitting on his porch catching the warm rays of the sun. After retirement, Freddy and Jo moved to Westerly to enjoy life and share their love of the beach with their grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, at St. Brigid Church, 1083 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by interment with his beloved wife at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill.
