Frederick Dale Vizena, 69, of Negaunee, passed away Saturday evening, February 10, 2024 suddenly at his home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Fred was born October 15, 1954 in Ishpeming to Wilfred J. and Patricia L. (Windsand) Vizena, graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1973 and was a 1981 graduate of NMU.
Fred had an incredible work ethic. He owned and operated West End Builders Supply and took an early retirement from Caterpillar, Inc.
Fred was dearly loved by everyone who knew him and would give you the shirt off his back. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Ishpeming Ski Club. Fred loved traveling and crewing for his sons many running and biking marathons in Leadville, Colorado. His hobbies included hunting, motorcycles, stock trading and weightlifting.
Surviving are his wife and best friend, Carol (Wickstrom) Vizena; his two sons, Jonathan (Carolyn) Vizena of Boston, and Joe (Leah) Vizena of Marquette; sisters: Charmaine Vivian, Renee Schneider and Terri (Tim) Ambrosius. Fred was a loving and devoted Grandpa to his special buddy Van, Madelyn and William; he always put his children and grandchildren first and they were his greatest joys in life. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Winnie.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother Jerry and infant grandson Jameson Vizena.
The family extends a special thank you to the first responders, EMT's and the Negaunee Police Department for their quick response.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 16th at St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee, with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the start of Mass at 1:00 pm at the church on Friday. A luncheon will follow in the St. Paul School gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Fred's memory to the UP Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team.
