Cheryl Ann Vizena, (Cherie to those who loved her) a devout Catholic and loving mother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the age of 73, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 4, 1950, living her entire life between the towns of Mamou, Eunice, and Basile, where she was known for her generous spirit and giving heart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou, LA followed by burial at New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
Cherie’s professional journey started as a beautician and owning her own shop. She later went to work at Basile Junior High as a school secretary where she shared her creative talents. She later went to work for Dr. Bobby Deshotel of Basile which fueled her passion to become a nurse. She put herself through school earning her license as a Practical Nurse (LPN). Her dedication exemplified her commitment to health care, and her caring nature was evident in every patient interaction.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cheryl was deeply involved in her faith community. She served as a Catechism Teacher and as a Eucharistic Minister, roles that reflected her devotion and commitment to guiding others in their spiritual journeys. Cheryl was also an active member and leader of the Charismatic Prayer group, where she fostered a sense of connection and community among participants.
She was passionate about sewing, crocheting, and cooking, often sharing her creative talents with those around her. Additionally, she enjoyed engaging in Bible study, which not only enriched her own spiritual life but also allowed her to connect with others who shared her faith.
Cheryl will be deeply missed by her loving family. Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Peter LeBlanc Jr. (Tara) and Paul LeBlanc (Bridget); daughters, Vanessa Guillory (Gerald) and Kathryn Bellow (Adam); grandchildren, Brock, Dustin, Zach, Luke and Weston; and many other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sammy Vizena and Hilda Berzas Vizena; and sister, Jeanete Fontenot.
At the request of the family, a visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Mamou with a rosary being prayed upon dismissal.
