Fredia Jo Rhyne, 72, of Glenpool, formally of Fort Gibson, was born December 25, 1952 in Checotah, OK to Ira and Thelma (Hudspeth) Carter, and entered eternal rest Tuesday, February 18, 2025 in Tulsa. Fredia was lovingly known as Jo by all who knew her. She graduated from Warner High School with the class of 1971, and furthered her education at Connors State College obtaining an Associate's Degree. Jo worked as a lab technician for a few years, but wasn't fond of the shift work while trying to raise her two small daughters at home. She went back to school, graduating with a Bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah with a major in education. Jo began her teaching career at Fort Gibson Public Schools in 1981, where she taught for 36 years, and retired in 2017. She married Charles Rhyne on July 4, 1970 and two daughters were born of this union.
Jo loved her family fiercely. Her passion was spending time with her grandchildren. She always made sure to show up for them, attending all of their events or even just taking them to lunch, creating many special memories with each one of them. Jo loved to play games, card games, and putting together puzzles with her friends and family. She was an exceptional writer, writing poems and stories about the people she loved. Her poems and stories are precious gifts that her loved ones will cherish for a lifetime. Jo had a heart of gold, always willing to go the extra mile for the people she loved. She changed the lives of many students over the years, teaching them structure and their schoolwork. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of wisdom, devotion, and unconditional love. She will be missed by all.
Jo is survived by her daughters, Dayna Allen of Bixby, OK, Jaime and husband Jason Snyder also of Bixby, OK; sister, Rita Boydstun and husband Dudley of Keefton, OK; sister-in-law, Bonnie Carter of Norman, OK; sister-in-law, Linda and husband Veto Delmedico of Fort Gibson, OK; her grand-daughters, Morgan and husband Alex Miller of Largo, FL, Alexis and husband Brent Dunlap of Bartlesville, OK, Sadie Allen of Bixby, OK, and Jentri Snyder of Bixby, OK; grandsons, Jaden Snyder and wife Kylee of Bixby, OK, Brystal Allen of Oktaha, OK, and Jakeb Snyder of Bixby, OK; her great-grandsons, Kellen, Aiden, and Tucker Dunlap all of Bartlesville, OK; many nieces, nephews, and some very special friends.
She is now reunited with her parents; brothers, Wilburn Carter, Boyd Carter, and Theodore Carter; and her former spouse, Charles Rhyne.
A visitation for Jo will be Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson with her family receiving friends 5PM-7PM. A celebration of Jo's life will be held 12PM, Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Timothy Baptist Church in Muskogee with Pastor Kelly Payne and Pastor Jason Snyder officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Citizens Cemetery in Fort Gibson with Jaden Snyder, Brystal Allen, Jakeb Snyder, Brent Dunlap, Darrin Allen, Alex Miller, Tony Downey, and Brandon Downey serving as casket bearers.
