Martinsville native, Fredrick "Jerry" Sheeks Jr., age 53, died on Monday, October 28th, 2024, at 3:33 AM at the Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis after years of failing health. Jerry's life began on Thursday, April 15th, 1971, in
Martinsville, Indiana. He was one of three sons born to Fredrick J. Sheeks and Brenda Sue (Potter) Sheeks.
Jerry was a graduate of Martinsville High School with the class of 1991. He began working at the Martinsville Kroger as a high school student and worked his way up in the company as a department head manager. He was a faithful employee of Kroger from 1990-2015. Sadly, he was forced to take an early retirement due to his failing health in 2015.
Aside from work, he enjoyed dirt track racing, NASCAR, building model cars and all holidays. Holidays were particularly important to Jerry, not only because he spent them with his large and loving family, but also because he thoroughly enjoyed decorating his yard for all of them. His family described him as a "Big Kid" at heart. He was known to frequently buy things for his grandkids they did not need and collect about anything pertaining to Jeff Gordon, among other collectibles. He also loved music, particularly Prince and Kiss, and his dogs, Pebbles and Jesse.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Christine (Montgomery) Sheeks of Martinsville; whom he married on August 28th, 2003; mother, Brenda Sue Sheeks of Martinsville; son, Jamie Swafford of Martinsville; six daughters, Shanne Montgomery, Kaci (husband, Rison) Mullikin, Keanna Swafford, Kalee Sheeks, Macy Meers, and Storm Sheeks all of Martinsville; two brothers, Scott Sheeks and Kevin (wife, Kim) Sheeks both of Martinsville; and thirteen beloved grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and two grandchildren.
Jerry's family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Memorial Service on Sunday, November 10th, 2024, beginning at 1:00 PM at the Martinsville Senior Center, 1369 Blue Bluff Road in Martinsville.
