Gail Mitchell Moran, born on August 5, 1946, in Picayune, Mississippi, departed this world on August 12, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. She dedicated 37 remarkable years of her life to the US Geological Survey Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility at Stennis Space Center, where her contributions earned her recognition such as the Scroll of Honor from the Department of the Interior and a 30-year service pin.
Gail was a proud alumna of Mississippi State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Education in 1968. Throughout her life, she not only cultivated a successful career but also nurtured a deep love for reading, classic movies, gardening, and her beloved dogs, reflecting her vibrant personality and her appreciation for the joys of life.
In her family life, Marianne is survived by her cherished daughter, Meagan Leigh Moran; her beloved nieces and nephews, Daphne Barrios and Reggie Barrios; as well as cousins Joy Legan and her children, Alexandra and Erin, along with Jimmy Tate and Warren Tate.
She joins in eternal rest her husband, Alden Reginald Moran; her parents, Otho and Doris Tate Mitchell; and her sister, Kay Mitchell.
The community is invited to honor Marianne’s memory on August 23, 2025, with a visitation taking place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Riemann Family Funeral Home in Pass Christian, Mississippi. The burial will follow, taking place at Bayou LaCroix Cemetery in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, starting at 3:30 PM.
Marianne will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for the joyful spirit she shared with those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Those who knew Gail Moran will remember her always for her intellect and passion for learning, her love of dogs and gardening, her active participation in charities ranging from nature conservation to assistance for disadvantaged communities, her kindness and tolerance, and her fortitude during times of hardship. May her memory be a blessing and an inspiration, and a comfort to us all; in the word of a hymn she appreciated, "The joy we share as we tarry there, no other has ever known."
