Galen Robert Satrom, 88, of Page, ND died Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at the Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton, ND.
Galen was born in Page, ND on July 29, 1936 to J. Palmer Satrom and Mabel (Olstad) Satrom. He was one of the 135 babies born in the Charlie Wonser Maternity House in Page. He grew up helping on the farm. Galen attended his first 8 years of school in Colgate and graduated from Page High School in 1954. He attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND.
Galen was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior Lutheran Church (OSLC) in Page. He was a lifelong member of OSLC and active in church activities. Galen was treasurer for many years and also was head usher lining up weekly ushers for many years.
Galen and Josephine Peterson were united in marriage on September 25, 1960 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN. They started married life living in Page and later moved to the farm. Galen and Jo have three living children, Brenda Jo, Gregory Reid, and Richard Eric. One baby Janell Rae passed away at 8 days old.
Galen farmed with his dad until he retired. Galen and Jo enjoyed volunteering for a week in Medora for 10 years. He enjoyed getting to know the other volunteers, staff members and guests of Medora. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.
Galen enjoyed farming. He and his father raised sheep and cattle in addition to grain, sunflowers, corn and soybeans. Galen was always an optimist even when dealing with challenging weather conditions. He was very proud and happy to have his sons take over the farming when he retired.
He served on several local boards including the Dakota Water Users Board for 29 years. Galen was also an active member of the Page Cemetery Association Board for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Jo; three children: Brenda (Donna Duley) Satrom, Greg (Kim) Satrom, Richard (Gwen) Satrom, seven grandchildren: Cassie (Cody) Braaten, Macey Satrom, Makenna Satrom, Liam Satrom, Hannah Satrom, Aksel Satrom, Livia Satrom and one great-grandchild Crew Braaten.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J. Palmer and Mabel Satrom, his baby Janell Satrom, his brother, Maynard Satrom, his sister-in-law Jeanette Satrom and brother-in-law Gary Peterson.
Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: Will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 25, 2024 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Page, ND.
Burial: Will be in the Page Cemetery in Page, ND.
