Garry Beel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel of Capitol Hill on Aug. 22, 2024.
Garry Wayne Beel, lover of all things nostalgia, fishing, the OU Sooners, yellow pickup trucks, playing Moon with the Ivory Shakers, a good Egg McMuffin and especially his family, including his Maltese, Roxie; left this world on August 20, 2024 to enter his eternal home where there is no more pain, no more sickness and will be no more goodbyes.
Garry was born to Ike and Imogene Beel on July 26,1949 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of their four children. Graduating from Chouteau High School in 1967. He attended Northeastern State College for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served proudly in the 201 Aviation Company and received the bronze star for a heroic deed during the Vietnam War. Of course, he never spoke of this until the award was found in the attic
In 1969, Garry married Shirley Colclazier. Together they would put down roots and make a home in Oklahoma City. Welcoming their daughter, Amy, into the world, the family would grow alongside Garry's businesses. After 30 years, Garry would lose Shirley to cancer.
Eventually, Garry would find love again when church friends introduced him to Debbie Cantwell. God would take the pieces from their two families and make one. On November 17, 2001, Garry and Debbie were married at First United Methodist in Moore where they remained active in serving the community and with their Seeker Sunday school class until his passing. Garry is survived by his wife, Deborah Beel; his kids, Amy Beel Hales and her husband, Chris Hales, Ben Cantwell and his wife, Tara Cantwell; and Brandy Cantwell; and his grandchildren, Gideon and Karis Hales and Haiden Cantwell. His much loved puppy, Roxy. He is also survived by his sister, Jeanie Dobbs and her husband, Butch; his brother, Jimmy Beel and his wife, Vicki; and his brother, Phil Beel.
Garry was a person with a colorful character who will be hard to forget. He was just as comfortable with the poor as he was with the wealthy, but his heart was always for those that needed a little help or a hand up. He believed in second and third chances, as he often employed people that may not have had the same opportunity elsewhere. With one of his last acts, it was important to him to be able to give something more of himself. He chose to donate his organs and tissue, and his tissue is already being used to help burn victims.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, the 24th of August, at 1:00pm at First United Methodist in Moore.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers, for a donation to be made to the First United Methodist Church food bank, or the charity of your choice.
