Garry Lee Dishman, 81, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 5, 2024 at his home in Gothenburg following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born June 25, 1943 in Loup County, NE, son of Oscar Granville and Sylvia (Wright) Dishman. The family lived on a farm outside of Almeria until 1950 when they moved to Gothenburg. He attended Gothenburg Public Schools. Following school he worked at the Hay Mills until he started working for the City of Gothenburg. Garry worked for the City of Gothenburg in the Water Department for 45 years. Garry married Mary Lou Gerdes on December 5, 1960 in Lexington, NE. To this union four children were born Ron, DeAnna, Karen and Nancy. He enjoyed horseshoes, camping, fishing and especially being around family. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the Gothenburg Lions Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Lou Dishman of Gothenburg; son, Ronald Dean (Carmella) Dishman of Rochester, IN; three daughters, DeAnna Kay (Steve) Lange of Callaway, Karen (Todd) Wuehler of Cozad, and Nancy Sue (Curtis) DeVore of Wood River, three brothers, Henry B. (Patsy) Dishman, Delbert (friend Marsha Weeks) Dishman, and Lad (Ann) Dishman all of Gothenburg; sister, Carol (Gene) Schutz of Cozad; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Garry was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Sylvia Dishman, four brothers Ed Dishman, Loren Dishman, Grant Dishman, and William Dishman, three sisters, Hazel McKnight, Beulah Norris, and Betric Dishman. Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, December 12, 2024, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm. Funeral will be held at American Lutheran Church, 1512 Avenue G, Gothenburg, NE 69138, Friday, December 13, 2024 at 10:30 am with Pastor Doug Hjelmstad officiating. Burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE. Memorials may be given to the American Lutheran Church, 1512 Avenue G, Gothenburg, NE 69138, Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department, 602 10th St, Gothenburg, NE 69138 or the Gothenburg Lions Club.
