Garry Hill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nassau Funeral Home - Callahan on Dec. 12, 2025.
Garry Steven Hill, born on September 11, 1952, in Lexington, North Carolina, passed away on December 10, 2025, at his home in Hilliard, Florida surrounded by his loving family. Although he was born in Lexington, Garry grew up in Albemarle, North Carolina, where many of his childhood friends and extended family still reside.

Garry was a proud United States Navy veteran and later spent more than three decades serving as an air traffic controller. Originally from North Carolina, he made his home in Hilliard, Florida, where he and his family built their life together.

Garry had many interests that he enjoyed throughout his life. He had a love of cars and spent time building and racing them. He was also deeply interested in computers and technology, teaching himself programming and using those skills for a variety of personal and professional projects. Garry and his wife were active in their RV and motor coach community, where they formed many friendships and enjoyed traveling; they especially loved their visits to Disney. His interest in aviation continued beyond his work as an air traffic controller, including time spent flying with the Civil Air Patrol and the Jax Navy Flying Club.

Garry is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Sue Barbee Hill; his son, Michael Brandon Hill, and daughter-in-law, Jamie Olivia Hill, of Fort Myers, Florida; four grandchildren, Connor, Chase, Lindsay, and Caleb. He is also survived by his sisters, Connie Hill Almond and Patricia Hill James, both of Albemarle, North Carolina. Garry was preceded in death by his parents, James McCoy Hill and Pearl Aretta Hill; and his brother, James McCoy Hill, Jr.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Florida for their compassionate and respectful care.

The tribute above was prepared by Garry's loving family.

A private family gathering to honor Garry's life will be held after the holidays. The arrangements are under the care and direction of Nassau Funeral Home, 541720 US-1, Callahan, Florida 32011. 904-879-1770. Visit www.nassaufh.com to sign the family's guest book.
