Gary D. Allan, age 76, of Eugene, MO, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Stonebridge Senior Living Adams Street.
He was born on February 7, 1949, in Springfield, Mo., to the late Lester Allan and Phyllis (Melton) Phillips. He was married on July 23, 1994, in Lake Caramel, MO to Danita "Dee" Hawkins. Dee survives in the home.
Gary graduated from La Monte High School and went on to attend Washington State University. He later studied at Tarkio College, earning his bachelor's degree as a double major in criminal justice and business.
Gary enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served during the Vietnam War. His service included time as a Guard with the Military Police and as a Dental Assistant. He had a natural entrepreneurial spirit and loved to share his favorite story about his VW Bug. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he purchased a little Volkswagen Beetle for $50. Never one to miss an opportunity, he began offering 25-cent rides into town to fellow soldiers. The venture quickly turned a profit, and when he returned stateside after his service, he sold the car for the same $50 he'd paid for it-a story that always made him smile.
After completing his military service, Gary began a long and dedicated career with the Missouri Department of Corrections, where he served as a Deputy Warden prior to his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic and his commitment to those he worked alongside. Gary was never one to sit idle-throughout his life, he often held multiple jobs and took pride in providing for his family and giving his best in all he did.
Gary's love of motorcycles led him to join the Lake of the Ozark Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.), where he met many lifelong friends and found a shared passion for the open road. Gary and Dee spent a lot of time riding their motorcycles with those that helped them feel young at heart throughout the years.
He was happiest outdoors-fishing, canoeing, camping, or simply relaxing on the patio with a cold beer in hand. He and Dee fulfilled a lifelong dream when they made their home on Lake Carmel, a peaceful retreat where Gary took great joy in watching the geese and ducks glide across the water and the fish jump at the surface. He enjoyed playing poker with friends and lived by the saying, "It's five o'clock somewhere."
Gary and Dee shared a deep love for animals, having cared for many cats over the years. But his most loyal companion was always his dog, Fargo. When Fargo passed away, Gary made one heartfelt request-to have Fargo's urn placed with him so they could be together again.
Though Gary was a man of few words and carried a tough exterior, those who knew him well saw past that to the kindhearted, good-natured man within. He had a dry sense of humor, an easygoing spirit, and an unwaveringly positive outlook, even on difficult days. He was a loyal friend and deeply valued his lifelong friendship with Ken Henley.
Survivors include: his wife, Dee Allan; son, Steve Seidner (Monica) of Florissant, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Pam Allan of Henderson, Nev.; two grandchildren, Nik and Lauren Seidner; nieces and nephews, Kristina Allan, Carrie Homan (Eric), Heather Beyers, Josh Taylor (Gloria), Gennifer Heimerl (Dave), Stephanie Jenkins (Richard), Stacy Hawkins (Vic), Chris Hawkins (Ann Marie).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Lester; stepfather, Elvin Phillips; sister, Terry Allan; brother, Larry Allan; parents-in-law, Reber and Faye (McClain) Hawkins; and his beloved dog, Fargo.
