Gary Edward Barto, 59, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Cancer Institute at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, following complications from surgery for liver cancer. Gary was initially diagnosed with colon cancer in June of this year and fought both cancers with great strength and courage.
Gary was born on September 16, 1965, in Laurel, Maryland, to Leroy and Kathleen Mae Duvall Barto. He was a loving husband to Kimberly Barto for 36 years, married September 22, 1988. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, including Tammy Wallace and her husband Walter, Jeremy Barto and his wife Ashley, Jessica Hissong and her husband Jeremy, Danielle Barto, Ryan Barto and his wife Morgan, Justin Crist, Jonathon Crist, and Andrew Moats, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, including Samual Miller and his Fiancé Autumn Miller, David Barto, Ella and Izaak Hissong, Avery Rhoades and Tanner Barto.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Barto; his brother, William Barto; and his daughter, Brianna Barto and nephew Matthew Moats.
Gary was a proud graduate of James Buchanan High School, Class of 1983, and worked at Phoenix Color for 28 years. He was also a post member of the American Legion Post 373 in Greencastle, PA. Gary enjoyed woodworking, a craft he learned from his father, and spent his leisure time building model cars, a hobby he cherished throughout his life.
Gary was known for his kindness, generosity, and his ability to make lifelong friendships. He was a great friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer support to those in need.
