Gary George Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Trexler Funeral Home, Inc. on Jan. 27, 2026.
Gary Gordon George, 78, beloved father & grandfather, funny and sarcastic , and notably poor Christmas tree trimmer passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026 in Allentown.

Born October 7, 1947 in Allentown to Granville George, and Loretta (Steigerwalt) George, he was a proud graduate of Dieruff High School in 1965 and Bloomsburg University in 1975. Gary started his career working for General Electric in Allentown and finished it working as an industrial engineer for Lockeed Martin in Newtown. He was a longtime member of Dubbs Memorial UCC and then St. John's UCC, Fullerton. Gary had three great loves - chocolate chip cookies, the Cincinnati Reds, and, above all, Shirley, his beloved wife of 58 years. He always had time to work through a home improvement question with his daughter, Michele, talk baseball with his son, Sean, and laugh with, and sometimes at, his six grandchildren. Gary also had many enemies - at the top of his list were the skunks who would almost annually take up residence in his yard, the blue heron who ate a whole generation of his goldfish, and the CBS network for cancelling Everybody Loves Raymond in 2005. A talented woodworker, Gary spent hours in his workshop (that he built himself) listening to Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. He loved to swim in the ocean, was an excellent bowler, and had incredible comedic timing. He was very proud of his service during the Vietnam War, in which he served as an Army medic.

He is survived and will be sorely missed by his wife, Shirley, children, Michele (Jim) and Sean (Lori), grandchildren Sara, Hanna (Michael), Rhys, Wesley, Gwendolyn, and Max, and his first and favorite great-grandchild, set to arrive this fall. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia, brother-in-law, Robert, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Karen Danner.

Services: 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 31, 2026 at St. John's UCC, Fullerton, 575 Grape Street, Whitehall. A calling hour will begin at 9:30 AM at church. A private burial with military honors will follow.

Memorials can be considered to the church, the American Cancer Society or The Parkinson's Foundation, c/o Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 W. Highland St., Allentown, PA 18102.

I worked at General Electric and got to know Gary. Always had a smile on his face. A great guy to talk to. He built a huge patio roof for me when we lived in Allentown at our first home. So sorry to hear of his passing.
