Gary Dwight Modlin, 71, of Prospect Hill, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, July 14th, 2025 at Duke University Hospital.

He was born in Haw River, North Carolina on May 7th, 1954. He graduated from Eastern Alamance High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired after 23 years with the rank of Tech Sergeant, as a Biomedical Engineer.

After a long career in the Air Force, Gary finally settled in the Central Valley of California where he continued his career as an engineer and eventually Director of Engineering in the health care industry. He raised his family in the Central Valley with his late wife Susan Modlin, and their two children, Kevin and Joshua.

Gary was an avid golfer and was able to traverse the country playing courses that every golfer dreams of, from Pebble Beach, Torrey Pines, Pinehurst, and Edgewood Tahoe. Gary was a jack of all trades and enjoyed many hobbies from woodworking, electrical and mechanical projects, and at one point loved building his 1986 Jeep CJ7 to tackle the Rubicon Trail and many back country trails in California. There wasn't a DIY project that Gary didn't love to tackle and was the go to subject matter expert for his family and friends.

After retirement Gary loved traveling the country in his RV and eventually left California to go back home and settled back in Prospect Hill, North Carolina.

Gary was a loving husband and father. He worked tirelessly to build a better life for himself and to create opportunities for his family to thrive. For his dedication and love, we are forever grateful.

Gary is survived by his children, Kevin and Joshua. Daughter-in-laws Brooklyn and Willow. Grandchildren Autumn and Lukas, Wife Jacqueline, sister Kay Kirby and brother Lawrence Modlin.
