Gary Robert Paul, age 69, drifted peacefully away from this Earth on August 19, 2025. Gary was born on November 24, 1955 to Robert and Beverly Paul in
Biddeford, Maine.
During his childhood, Gary cherished his fond memories of living on a farm with his family in New Jersey and then moving back to grow up in Kennebunk, Maine. His cherished childhood memories were the simple days of camping at the lake in the family station wagon, watching the stars and going fishing with his parents and siblings. Gary also developed a great love of music from many family gatherings when his mom would play her guitar and harmonica.
Gary attended Kennebunk High School and graduated from the school of hard knocks. He went to work to help support his household and siblings. Despite his early departure from his formal education, Gary was proud of all his self-taught skills. From mechanical, electrical, construction or heavy equipment operation, he could learn anything that was put before him. He worked incredibly hard at everything he did. His occupations spanned from being "Mr. Lull" for Demateo Construction, owning his own restaurant KC Breadworks, working in the blanket dye house at Biddeford Textile to most recently being a printing press operator at William Arthur Stationary. He was a man of many trades.
Gary took the phrase "work hard, play hard" very seriously. He balanced his dedicated work ethic with raising the best kind of hell with a long line of beautiful classic muscle cars. He kept a detailed list of all the cars he has owned over the years. He had many stories about the good ol' days that always lit up his eyes and garnered a mischievous giggle. Two of his favorites included a 1965 Chevy Malibu Chevelle and a 1969 Buick Skylark.
Gary married Diane Charland on July 1, 1978 and became the proud Dad to daughter Jennifer in 1979. Always dedicated and proud of his roles in life as a son, brother, friend and husband, the title of Dad and Grampa were unmatched. No matter the conditions on the road of life, his love and support of his Punkin and family were unwavering.
When there was time for leisure, Gary treasured his time hunting, fishing and camping with his friends and family. He was happy and content with the simple joys of life being outdoors, spending time with his family and most especially watching his grandchildren grow and supporting them at their sporting events.
Gary is predeceased by his beloved parents Robert and Beverly Paul, his brother-in-law Roger Reed and a few special friends that he missed dearly. Gary is survived by his daughter Jennifer Barden, son-in-law Kristopher, grandsons Flynn and Jackson, sister Angela Reed, sister Anita Charland and husband Ronald, brother Stephen Paul and wife Donna, many special nieces, nephews, friends and dear friend Sweet Pea Dee.
Gary's daughter Jennifer would like to extend her deepest gratitude to the staff at Maine Medical Center R1, Southern Maine Medical Center Emergency, Hospice of Southern Maine and his nurse Sue, and the loving members of the staff at Gosnell Hospice House that provided care and comfort to Gary and his family.
Gary's Going Away Party will be held on September 7, 2025 at 2:00 to 5:30pm at the Hitching Post of Maine, 35 Anderson Road, Dayton, ME. www.hitchingpostofmaine.com
