Gary J. Simpson

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of my beloved husband, Gary J. Simpson, on July 7th, 2024. Born on February 26th, 1940 in Lansing, MI. Gary served in the Army from 1960-1963 in Germany and lost 50 pounds because he didn't want to stand in line for food. When he got home, he joined his mother and father to help run Simpson's Fashions, where he remained for 30 years. Following the store closing, Gary was a devoted mail handler, serving the Postal Services with pride and dedication before his well-deserved retirement. He was a man of many interests, including a deep love for animals, a passion he displayed by caring for numerous strays that crossed his path. He loved driving, working hard, and finding sweet treats for his family, which he would procure until we pleaded for mercy. Gary loved parties, but his favorite part was always leaving early. After retirement, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often found sleeping in his recliner with the latest MTV music videos playing in the background.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Simpson, his daughters Terese Ann Goren and Denise Russell along with her husband Kevin. He leaves behind his cherished granddaughter, Kayleigh Levan and her spouse Brady, and his precious great-granddaughter, Liliana Levan. Gary is also survived by his sister Patricia Biddle and her husband Ralph, and his niece Angela Sloan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Louise Simpson, his nephew Steven Biddle, and his son-in-law Michael Goren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 11th, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas, 67152.
