Gary Vadersen Obituary

Gary Robert Vadersen (73) passed away on November 3, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert A. and Margaret E. Vadersen; late wife, Virginia (Ginger) Vadersen; sister, Karen Mintz; and stepdaughter, Kristen Moskway. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Moskway-Vadersen; daughter, Cameron Vadersen-Jacob (Michael); son, Andrew Vadersen; stepson, Michael Moskway; granddaughter, Morgan Jacob; brother, Mark Vadersen; sisters, Julia Vadersen and Jill McNulty (Neal); brothers-in-law, Bruce Mintz and Wayne Sykes (Lynn); sisters-in law, Betty Long (James) and Ann Sykes; and special nieces and nephews.
Gary was a graduate of First Colonial High School and Elon University. He retired as Branch Manager of Bobcat of Tidewater after 35 years in the construction equipment field. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching his Chicago Cubs and cheering for his Chicago Bears. Over the last twenty-two years, he even renewed his love for the Washington Commanders, Nancy's and his siblings' favorite team. Of course, his favorite softball player was his beloved granddaughter Morgan; he never missed one of her games.
Morgan was the light of his life, and they shared a special bond. They had their inside jokes and cherished traditions. From "Kindeegarden" to playing catcher, to the clarinet, to sharing bacon on Sunday mornings, to "warter" and "gawbage," they created memories to cherish. As Morgan always said, "It's Grandpa's world, and we're all just living in it!"
Holidays spent with his family were special events, especially Christmas. He and Nancy spent at least three days each year celebrating with their siblings! They hosted a Holiday Open House for many years, filling their home with family and friends. Gary was always the gracious host, laughing and telling funny stories!
Blessed with the gift of gab and a wonderful sense of humor, Gary never met a stranger! He would talk to anyone! Nancy called him the "Mayor of Hunningdon Woods Blvd" for the many hours he spent on their front porch talking with anyone who passed by. One of the things that Nancy loved the most was the way that Gary made her laugh. He always told a funny story, albeit with a few added details to stretch the truth a bit.
His deep love of family, his faithfulness to those he loved, and his zest for life, Gary was indeed a special person. When you think of him, remember him with a smile.
A Memorial Service will be held on November 14, 11am, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. Visitation on November 13, 5-7pm, at the same location.
