Michael "Mike" Agnew, 68, passed away in Virginia Beach, Virginia on October 27, 2025. A resident of Virginia Beach, Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara.
Mike was born on a Naval Base in Bermuda on July 11, 1957 to Captain Frank and Anne Agnew. He graduated from First Colonial High School in 1975 and went on to graduate from James Madison University in 1981 with a Bachelors in Business Administration. Shortly after graduating, he met the love of his life, Barbara. They were married in 1986, and soon after, Mike began his own business. Forever driven, Mike continued to build his business up until the day he passed. Mike and Barbara gave birth to two children, Katelin in 1989, and Samuel in 1991. Mike absolutely loved being a father and would consider it his greatest accomplishment. No matter how stressful or busy life was, Mike always prioritized his family and friends. He made it a point to always keep in touch with everyone in his life, whether it was a phone call checking in, a happy birthday wish, or just some good, old-fashioned teasing (especially to his kids and their friends).
Mike lived every second of his life to the fullest; whether he was riding around on his boat, biking through the trails of Seashore State Park, or grabbing a meal at his favorite restaurants, he was always sporting his signature grin. In recent years, Mike managed to surpass his greatest accomplishment of being the best dad ever by becoming an even more incredible grandfather to Eliza and Peter Collins. From the moment they were born, they had him wrapped around their finger and he loved every second of it. Whether it was dancing for Pete at 5 months old in the kitchen or balancing a rubber duck on his head at dinner, Grandpa always knew how to make Pete and Eliza laugh.
Mike is survived by his beautiful wife, Barbara, his two children, Kate (husband Dave) and Sam (wife Michelle); his mother Anne; his sisters, Elisa (husband Tom) and Laura (husband Tim); his 2 grandchildren Eliza and Peter, five very loved nieces and nephews, and countless other family members and friends that he loved so much. Anyone who knew Mike loved him, and he will be incredibly missed.
"Some of it's magic, and some of it's tragic but I had a good life all the way."
The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown, Great Neck Chapel on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 10 to 11AM with a Celebration of Life beginning at 11AM. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.hollomon-brown.com
