Gary Leon Vogel, born on January 5, 1950, in Keota, Iowa, passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 20, 2025, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was a cherished husband, father, brother, and grandfather whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew him.
He found love and companionship with his wife, Emmilee Kohl, and together they built a life filled with joy and laughter in Iowa City. Their family grew to include son Christopher Vogel and daughters Lisa (Kelly) Webster of Justin, Texas, and Jessica (Bill) Kirby of Augusta, Georgia. Gary was a proud father, and his love only multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild: grandsons Zeno and Zander Vogel; Liam and Hudson Kirby; Jacob and Christian Webster; and granddaughter Ryan Kirby.
Survived by his siblings, sisters Elaine (Dean) Finley of Winthrop, Maine, Susan (Alan) Byerly of Washington, Iowa, and Mary Vogel of Keota, Iowa. His brother, Patrick (Robyn) Vogel of Keota, Iowa. Special family friend, Laura Vogel of Kalona, IA.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Rita Vogel of Keota, Iowa and his son, Christopher Vogel of Harper, Iowa and his brother Dan Vogel of Keota, Iowa.
Gary, an avid golfer, could often be found on the greens, relishing the game and the company of friends. Among his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren.
His legacy is one of love and kindness, that will live on through the lives of those he touched.
