Gary V. Zuella, 72, of Middlebury, passed away on Tuesday October 3, 2023 in the comfort of his home with his beloved wife KC by his side after a long courageous battle with a traumatic brain injury. He was the husband of Katherine "KC" (Cavanaugh) Zuella.
Gary was born in Waterbury on June 23, 1951, son of the late John N. and Helen (Baina) Zuella. He graduated from Wilby High School Class of 1969 and attended Mattatuck Community College. Gary started his career in auto parts industry at Bradley Department Store, Auto Department and later at Moe's Auto Parts where he learned and mastered the business. He then pursued his dream of opening his own store "Gary's Auto Parts", which he successfully ran until his injury. He was the co-owner of the former Park Place on West Main Street in Waterbury. Gary had a strong work ethic and had too many hobbies to mention.
Besides his wife KC of 38 years, he is survived by; a brother, John "Jack" Zuella of FL; a sister, Judith Wilbur of Waterbury; a brother-in-law, Donald Cavanaugh and his wife Mary of Southington; the two sons he never had, Steven Gilmore and Joseph J. Massetti both of CT; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, James Zuella and a sister-in-law, Patricia Cavanaugh.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Leonardi Koliani, Gaylord Hospital, and Accentcare Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion and rehabilitation given to Gary during his illness. A special thank you to Patti DiFelice and Robin and Joe Massetti for all they did to help KC during Gary's battle.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday October 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Church. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury has been entrusted with Gary's arrangements.

The after work parties at the store and hanging at Domars,and the flea markets looking to buy antique clocks.he was my boss for 8yrs and my good friend as well,was like a 2nd father to me when i needed advice or someone to vent,many great memories ill always remember.ill always truley miss him and so sorry for everyones loss,family and friends who knew him,RIP my friend. A TRULY TERRIFIC MAN . VERY KIND AND GENEROUS . HE WAS A HUGE PART OF HELPING ME START MY AUTO BUSINESS . I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR ALL HE DID FOR ME AND ALL THE ADVICE ALONG THE WAY . NOT TO MENTION THE COOKOUTS AFTER HE CLOSED UP THE PARTS STORE ON SUNDAYS ALONG WITH THE TERRIFIC CREW HE HAD WORKING FOR HIM . THANK YOU GARY . I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES WE HAD .
