Dr. Gene L. Krishingner Sr. went to sleep in Jesus quietly at his home in Hendersonville, NC on Sabbath, August 10th, 2024, at the age of 85. He was surrounded by family and friends. Dr. Gene was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma in 2008 at the Age of 69. Despite losing one of his kidneys and enduring chemotherapy and other treatments, he continued to work as a general surgeon until 2018 at the age of 79, lastly at the Navajo Indian Reservation in Chinle, AZ.
Gene was born March 4th, 1939, in York, Pennsylvania to David Leroy Krishingner and June Adeline Donnan Krishingner. He graduated from Blue Mountain Academy, attended Washington Missionary College, and received his Doctor of Medicine from Loma Linda University in 1965. He completed his surgical internship at Tacoma Park, Maryland, and residencies in General Vascular and Thoracic surgery in Jacksonville, FL, and at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles, California. Gene proudly served in the United States Navy from 1972- 1974.
In 1976 he moved to Hendersonville, NC to work at Fletcher Hospital until 2004. Balancing the demands of being a physician and surgeon with his passion as a husband and father, Gene exhibited endless love for his family, dedication to his patients, and devotion to his church community, serving behind the scenes. He never sought recognition but inspired a legacy of healing in healthcare through his children and grandchildren, many of which became, or inspire to become physicians, dentists, and nurses.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, David & June Krishingner as well as his stepmother Wilma Krishingner, brothers Philip A. Krishingner and James (Shorty) L. Krishingner. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Beatrice Anne Newman Krishingner, his six children, Stephanie (Scott) Yager, Rebecca Bartlett, Dr. Gene (Christa) Krishingner Jr., Pamela (Sam) Burchard, Dr. David (Tami) Krishingner, and Dr. John (Julie) Krishingner, his 12 grandchildren, Ashlyn (Jonathan) Armstrong, Dr. Gene Austin (Kiri) Krishingner, Alexandra (Michael) DeRose, Aidan Krishingner, Carissa (Jordan) Hall, Carson Krishingner, Katelyn Burchard, Tarah Krishingner, Lantz Krishingner, Jackson Krishingner, Erica Krishingner, Gavin Clement, and his five great-grandchildren, Elise & Rowan Armstrong, Leon, Owen, and Silas Krishingner. Gene is also survived by his siblings, David (Bay) Krishingner Jr., Janet (Sterling) Mummert, Judith Shaffer, and Nancy (Dave) Leonard, and step-siblings Patty (Mark) Battenburg, and Stanley (Miriam) Yurth.
Memorial service to be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at the Fletcher Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1141 Howard Gap Road, Hendersonville, NC 29892. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be sent either to Dr. Gene L.
