Genevieve Ann (Howard) Cahill
January 11, 1930 – February 24, 2025
Once again "The Big House on the Corner" has one less light in the window.
Those are words that are hard to write but harder to speak. The finality of saying those words feels as if someone has taken the breath from our family. We have to remind ourselves to take in the breath that she gave us when she brought us into this world: breathe just breathe.
Mom was the weaver of our family's story, she sewed the patches of our family's quilt together. Stitch by stitch with strands so strong and bonded with love, they were unbreakable. She gave us such wonderful memories of growing up in the Cahill Clan in "The Big House on the Corner". She loved having family and friends fill the rooms of their home with music, laughter and dancing. Mom loved having her children and grandchildren running in and out of that big old house.
She made sure that every holiday was perfect, with her baking, decorating and filling every inch of the house with family and friends, she created the holiday magic. Every holiday was like that, mom poured so much of her love into every moment to insure memories were made and would be treasured for years to come.
Our mom never met a stranger. She always had an open door and if you needed a good cup of coffee and a good conversation, her kitchen table was the place to be. From solving the world problems to recapping the latest episode of The Young and The Restless, there was no subject too big or too small that mom could not handle.
The current has shifted in our family and we have to learn how to navigate our way without her. It will not be an easy journey but because of her strength, her love for us and her faith in God we will be able to continue knowing she is guiding our way. We know we will see her again and when we do there is no doubt she will be dancing in the arms of our dad and be reunited with their son. Until then watch over us mom and know you are loved beyond measure.
She is preceded in death by her husband (Charles) her son (Matthew). Left to cherish her memory are her children; Paula (Joe) Stearman, Mickie (Ernie) Ellison, Mary Lou (Mike) Rodgers, Teresa (Albert) Galeano, Howard (Pat) Cahill, Charles R. (Stephanie) Cahill, Leslie (Artie) Harrington and Amy (John) Nail; 30 grandchildren and 124 great and great-great grandchildren.
Her Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3511 Rudd Avenue, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be Friday, February 28th from 2 – 8 p.m. at Ratterman Southwest Funeral Home, 4832 Cane Run Rd.

Sitting alone crying and missing you. Still in disbelief that you are gone. I never thought I´d see the day. Thank you for giving us so much and for keeping us company for so long. With all the love that you created and keep on both sides of the mortal plane; I know Heaven heard you coming. Rest easy Gee Gee
