George J. Broman, 98, of Dixon, IL, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at his home in Dixon, surrounded by his family. He worked as a Mail Carrier for the USPS in Dixon.
George was born on February 14, 1927, in Dixon, the son of Salem and Mildred (Springer) Broman. He married Marilyn Bowers on January 30, 1949. She preceded him in death on February 21, 2025. He was an active lifelong member of Dixon Church of the Brethren, serving as a Deacon, and partaking in the men's fellowship group each week. George proudly served in the United States Army. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Austria and spoke often of wanting to return to visit. George was a member of the Dixon Lions Club and delivered Meals on Wheels with his wife, Marilyn. In his younger years, he also delivered paper and worked as an ice cream man. George was an avid golfer, loved to go antiquing, and enjoyed time spent mowing or out in his garden with his flowers.
George is survived by his three daughters, Diane Broman of Dixon, Cathy Elizabeth (Jerry) Freeman of Freeport, IL, Kim Adcock of Polo, IL; four grandchildren, Carrie A. (Rob) Goldie of Dixon, Kirsti (Scott) Severns of Lena, IL, Nicole (Marty) Holbert of Freeport, IL, Christopher Adcock of Rockford, IL; seven great-grandchildren, Alaric (Toni), Kyle, Kara, Alizabeth, Nick, Veronica, Gracie; five great-great-grandchildren, Jaydan, Isabella, Journee, Hendrix, Alexander; one brother, Richard Broman of Cantonment, FL; one sister, Marilyn Bowers of Dixon; and one brother-in-law, Wayne Hummel of Dixon.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn Elizabeth Broman; one sister, Rita Hummel; brother-in-law, Neil Bowers; and sister-in-law, Janice Broman.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Dixon Church of the Brethren, with Bishop Michael Cole, officiating. Burial will be to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, with a Luncheon at the church after.
Memorials may be directed to Dixon Church of the Brethren.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
