George Cote Obituary

George W. Cote, Jr.
SOUTHBURY - George W. Cote Jr., 87, of Southbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully, at home, on January 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving children. Born on July 25, 1938, in North Adams, MA, George was the beloved son of George W. Cote Sr. and Malvina (Bourget) Cote. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Ann (Ditter) Cote. He is survived by his son, William Cote and wife, Tricia of Bethlehem; his daughter, Kristina (Cote) Folan and husband, Dennis of Medfield, MA; and his treasured grandchildren, Dennis, Ariana and Jack Folan and Kayla Cote. George lived in Ware, MA, before moving to Seymour, CT, where he attended Assumption Grammar School and Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, CT. George graduated from the Connecticut School of Electronics and received Certificates of Administration from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. George served in the United States Army and was stationed with HHC, 501st Support and Transportation Battalion, 1st Armored Division in Fort Hood, Texas. After his service he returned to CT and married the love of his life, Mary Ann. They were married November 15, 1969, at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. Above all, George cherished his family and his love story with Mary Ann spanned 50 years. Together they built a family that brought him his greatest pride: his children and grandchildren. George began his professional career as a hospital administrator in the family business, Shady Knoll Private Hospital in Seymour, CT. After the sale of the business in 1980, George changed careers and began working in electronics and quality control engineering at Dual-Lite, Inc in Newtown, CT. His love for tinkering with electronics and knack for fixing all things mechanical kept him busy during his retirement. George found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including his cherished MG, his admiration for antique cars and his love of classical music. George was best known for his kindness, humor and generosity. He was a quiet soul, unless you started talking about cars, electronics, or his beloved cocker spaniel, Leah. He will be remembered fondly for his stories and the warmth and love he brought to his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, in Southbury, CT. Family and friends may gather for a visitation immediately prior to the Mass from 9:00 - 10:45 AM in the daily chapel of the church. Burial will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org , if desired. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.CarpinoCares.com .

George Cote was my family's friend and neighbor for decades. My mother always commented that in his own quiet way, George was a truly great man. He could fix anything-- electrical, mechanical, anything involving carpentry-- and was endlessly generous in helping his neighbors and extended community, often flying under the radar, and never comfortable accepting thanks or credit. George also was a natural and very funny storyteller, on all subjects. But his proudest stories involved his children and grandchildren-- the source of such joy and pride for both George and Mary Ann. My family sends our deepest condolences to Bill, Kristina, and their families. We will always cherish our memories of George and Mary Ann, and will be planting flowers in their memory in the Pollinator Pathway Garden on Phillips Farm Preserve, which George and Mary Ann both helped to preserve 20 years ago.
