George Robert Jones, Jr. "Bob" 92 of Clarksdale, Mississippi passed away on September 13, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at Clarksdale Methodist Church Tuesday, September 16,2025, with visitation beginning at 10:30-11:30 a.m. followed by the funeral. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS. is handling the arrangements.
Bob was born June 20, 1933, in Clarksdale Mississippi. He graduated from Clarksdale High School, where he was a member of the football team and voted "Best Personality" by his classmates. After graduating he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean war.
Following his service in the Army, Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Mississippi State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. In 1957, he married the love of his life Shirley Crawford Jones and together they made their home in Clarksdale.
Bob built a successful career in the agricultural chemical industry while remaining involved in his community. He served as President of the Clarksdale Country Club, President of Lee Academy Board, Lions Club, First United Methodist Administrative Board, the development committee for Flowers Manor Retirement Community and a member of Clarksdale Methodist Church. Bob loved playing golf, gardening, hunting, traveling and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. His greatest joy, however, came from time spent with his family and friends.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the amazing staff at Flowers Retirement Community and The Green House, the wonderful sitters, Stacy and Julia Wortham. The excellent care by Gentiva Hospice in Clarksdale and Oxford. Fran Ross for all her sweet visits and all the prayers from friends. We will be forever grateful for everyone's love and support.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Shirley Crawford Jones, his parents, George Robert Jones and Pearl Harrington Jones, his sister Ann Elizabeth Barron, Grandson Clay Roland, and great granddaughter Finn Powell.
Survivors include his four daughters, Lorna (Ricky) Roland, Janis (Richard) Powell, Julia (Rod) Ray, Wendy (Byran) Ray. Grandchildren Ann Clark (Russell) Elmore, Rainer (Lindsey) Powell, Aubrey (Tom) McKee, Brent (Tori) Powell, Boyce Powell, Chandler Powell, Evelyn Ray, Jones Ray, Parker Ray, Peyton (Kelsey) Overstreet, Bryan Ray Jr. Great grandchildren Ford, Louis, and George Elmore, Alice, Mitch, and Palmer Powell, Greenie, Georgia, Booth, and Boyce Mckee, Harper, and Beck Powell, Sunni and Campbell Overstreet. Sister and brother-in-law Janis and Sonny Leake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flowers Retirement Community "Sunday Fund" 1251 West Lee Drive, Clarksdale, MS. 38614.
