George Louis Lacanski, 96, of Peoria, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on February 22, 1929, the son of Stana and Nicola Lacanski. George married Rosemary Stear on December 3, 1949, in Hanna City. His beloved wife preceded him in death on March 9, 2011. George was further preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles and sister, Helen.
He is survived by his son, Nickolas of Peoria; brothers, Mick, Steve, and Louie; and sister, Marina.
As a young man, George served in the Navy. After he was discharged on March 10, 1948, he worked for the Peoria/Pekin Union Railroad. George started attending Bradley University and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. Following graduation, he was employed by McDonald Douglas in St. Louis, MO. He then relocated to Peoria in 1974 where he was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company for eleven years. After leaving Caterpillar, he returned to St. Louis and finished his career employed by the Department of the Army.
George most enjoyed home remodeling and spending time with family and friends.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Old Christ Church Limestone Cemetery in Hanna City, Illinois.
