George William Longnecker was born at home in Pleasant Hill, Ohio on February 22, 1941, to George Yount Longnecker and Virginia Smith Longnecker. He passed away peacefully at OU Medical Center on February 16, 2025, with his family by his side.
After graduating from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served four years. After leaving the Navy he moved to Oklahoma City and began his college education at the University of Oklahoma, then transferred to Central State University now known as University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) earning his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. The majority of his career after college was a Contracting Officer at Tinker Air Force. He loved his work and looked forward everyday to it.
George was a single father raising his two daughters. In 1982, he met the love of his life, Julie and they married in 1983 and soon became a family of four. George and Julie were true soulmates. Julie always said she not only married George but also married Terri and Kathi and from that point on she joined George in continuing to raise the girls who both grew into beautiful, successful, Christian women now with children and grandchildren of their own.
After the girls moved on with their lives, George and Julie became interested in mission work. They joined the mission team at Wickline UMC and went on mission team trips all over the world including Mexico, Peru, Honduras, Bolivia, Columbia, Chile and other destinations. It truly became one of his passions. In addition to mission trips, they developed a true love of travel all over the world. Some of their favorite destinations they visited were Australia, Italy, Greece, Indonesia, China, Japan, Germany, France, Portugal, Poland, Spain to name a few. They also loved to snow ski in Colorado and Lake Tahoe. George loved to do volunteer work. He spent many hours at Wickline with his best friend Ray Harding doing many projects around the church and in parishioner's homes. He and Ray built not one but two stages for Julie's passion, Jazzercise. He truly enjoyed working with Ray and was devasted when Ray passed on. He also volunteered at OU Medical Center information desk and the Oklahoma Election Board.
George was a very quiet and reserved man until you got to know him. He was a gentle soul with a big heart. He loved animals, yard work, working around the house and a good margarita. George and Julie LOVED OU Football and up until the last year attended every home game and Texas/OU game in Dallas, one of their favorite weekends. They also went to National Championship games and attended away games at every Big XII campuses.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Joy and his in-laws Bill and Joan Rhodes. He is survived by his wife, Julie, daughter Terri (Bryan) and their three children, Paige, Brooke and Cole; Daughter Kathi and her four children Taylor (Ashley) and their two boys Brantley and Hunter, Kelsey (Brian) and their fur babies Louie and Arlo, Clayton and Kinsley; brother Joseph (Sandi) and their daughters Laura, Lisa and Jillian and lastly his beloved and devoted fur baby, Tofu, who never left his side and adored her "Poppy". Wherever George was so was Tofu and where Tofu was so was George. George truly had a servant's heart and will be missed by so many.
