George Mithies Owens, 75, stepped out of this life and into the light of eternity on August 22, 2025, surrounded by family and lifted in prayers and love. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud "Poppa." George was born to Alvin and Francis Owens on March 15, 1950 in Alton, Missouri.
Upon completion of high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served faithfully as a Machinist Mate for four years. During his time in uniform, George earned several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea).
On September 27, 1976, George married the love of his life, Neda née Campbell. Together they built a home filled with love and raised their family in Kilgore, Texas, where George worked diligently in the oilfield to provide for those he cherished. Known for his steady patience, quiet strength, and quick wit, George carried himself with kindness and humility. Though not a man of many words, when he spoke, his humor and wisdom left a lasting impression. He also had a masters touch on the grill bringing family and friends together around the table creating many unforgettable meals and memories.
George placed a committed faith in Jesus Christ at the center of his life. His walk with the Lord was never loud or showy, but rather steady and enduring. It was a faith marked by a quiet trust and steadfast devotion which continues to echo through the legacy he leaves. That faith gave him strength in difficult times and served as a living testimony of God's grace to his family, his friends, and all who knew him. George found a deep joy in reconnecting with extended family and church community especially when he and Neda moved back to Alton, Missouri, in January 2024. His presence brought peace and laughter to those around him, a reflection of the gentle heart he carried throughout his life.
George was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Francis Owens and his brother, Robert Owens.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy through his beloved wife, Neda Owens; his children, Greggery and Melissa Johnson, Alvin and Marsha Owens, and Daniel Owens; and his grandchildren, Mikaelah Owens, Rebekah Johnson, Kai Owens, and Kenneth Johnson. He is also survived by his siblings, Jackie Beutler, Diana Clary, and John Owens, as well as many extended family, friends, and church community who will forever remember him with love.
Services will be 10:00 Monday, August 25,2025 at the Clary Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Hoffpowier officiating, burial in the New Bailey Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00pm Sunday at the funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dallas Scottish Rite for Children, 2222 Welborn ST. Dallas Texas 75219,
