George Simmons Jr. was born in a sleepy little town in Northeast Texas called Roxton, Texas on July 26, 1937. He lived to be 86 years old.

George received his early education in Paris, Texas where he lived with his beloved grandparents Willie Clifton Watson and Bessie Mae Jackson Watson. After graduating from Carver High School in Midland, Texas, he attended and graduated from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas where he studied Industrial Arts. Upon graduation from TSU, George attended the University of Texas in Austin, Texas to pursue a degree in Architectural Engineering.

At UT, George joined the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and met his wife, Eva. They were married in 1962 and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1963. George designed the Nucleus Plaza Shopping Center and was instrumental in the design of Sproul Homes in Regal Estates and the Valley View Subdivisions in North Las Vegas, Nevada. After these experiences, George joined Holmes and Narver, a Nevada Test Site contractor and spent the next 42 years working with various NTS contractors before retiring from Bechtel. George served on the Board of Directors of the Westside Federal Credit Union for many years.

George was a very insightful, calm, and gentle man. He never raised his voice and always gave sound advice and guidance. He absolutely loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. George also enjoyed telling stories about the good old days and had a great sense of humor. He was married to his loving wife for 61 years. They shared a bond that grew stronger with time and was a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

Beyond his professional achievements, George enjoyed bowling, baseball and had a deep love for golf, spending countless hours on the green perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow golf enthusiasts. George played in local tournaments with the Valley View Golf Club and the Western States Golf Association. He served as handicap chairman and won many trophies doing what he loved. But most of all he was an involved father and a dutiful husband.

George Simmons was preceded in death by his parents, George Simmons Sr. and Willie Mae Harrison and his stepfather Benny Harrison and his only brother Codis Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Eva G. Simmons; son and daughter Stephen P. Simmons and Stephanie Simmons–Johnson (Joe); grandchildren Carlton Gene McGee II, Cameron George McGee, and Stephen Jacob Mosley-Simmons; two great grandchildren Ariana McGee and Keanu McGee; two first cousins Julius Jones and Darlene Sims; and sister Bobbi Simmons Williams. George leaves to mourn his passing many admiring nieces, and nephews, dear friends, and golfing buddies.

George Simmons will be remembered for his exceptional talents, unwavering love for his family, his passion for bowling and golf, the lasting contributions he made and the lives he touched.
