Gerald Barnhart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Marshall Funeral Home and Cremations on Mar. 12, 2025.
Gerald Nathan "Sonny" Barnhart Jr., was a beloved son, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born to Gerald Nathan Barnhart Sr. and Branda Fourtunia. Sonny grew up in Jefferson, LA, and attended Riverdale High School. He later moved to Mississippi, where he made his home. At just 18, he began his career in the sprinkler pipe industry, working alongside his close friend, John, until he was no longer able to work. A fighter to the very end, Sonny never gave up.
Sonny had a passion for life and a heart full of love. He cherished watching LSU football on Saturdays and the Saints on Sundays, and he found joy in fishing with his Uncle Ronald whenever he had the chance. His greatest happiness, however, came from spending time with his children, grandchildren, and their friends, all of whom he treated as his own. To know Sonny was to love him-he never met a stranger and made everyone feel like family. Gerald fought the good fight and never wanted to give up. Gerald Barnhart Jr. passed away peacefully Thursday, February 20, 2025 surrounded by his family in Kiln, MS at the age of 56.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Nathan Barnhart Sr.; his sister, Tina Ghersanich; and his Uncle Ronald.
Sonny is survived by his sons, Bryant Nathan (Kristin) Barnhart and Tyler Joseph (Anna) Barnhart; his mother, Branda Fourtunia; his siblings, Kevin (Violet) Griffith, Gladys Vincent, and Wayne Caballero; his mother-in-law, Candis Gleason; and the mothers of his children, Virginia Planche and Racquel Barnhart. He was a proud grandfather to Lainey Barnhart, Azden Barnhart, Lillian Barnhart, Bennett Barnhart, Landry Barnhart, Parker Evans, and Laten Evans, and he also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to his friends at Delta Dawn for their love and support.
Sonny's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
