Geraldine Mattice Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Geraldine B. Mattice departed this world at the age of 96 on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Wells Nursing Home in her hometown of Johnstown, NY.

Born on February 6, 1929, in the very same town that she lovingly made her lifelong home, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Marion (Erkanbrack) Bradt.

Geraldine's life was a beautifully woven tapestry of devotion and community. She married the love of her life, Richard L. Mattice Sr., on September 19, 1948. Their enduring bond continued until his passing on June 21, 1984. Together they nurtured a family that would become Geraldine's greatest pride. She is survived by her loving daughters, Sally Stankes (Robert), Linda Logan, Catherine Maragno (Robert), and Jeri Wagner; brothers, Edgar and Harold Bradt; and her dear sisters, Valla Case, Elvira Herrick, Carolyn Kenyon, and Susan Holmes.

Her legacy extends through her grandchildren, Brian, Christopher, and Joseph Stankes; Dustin Logan, Adam, and Audrey Wagner; David Maragno; Karyn Powlikowski (John); and Douglas Mattice; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Geraldine is predeceased by her sons, Richard Mattice Jr., and Alan D. Mattice; brothers, Everett, Ralph Jr., Marvin, Edward, Richard, and Charles Bradt and son-in-law, Richard Logan; daughter-in-law, Linda Mattice.

A faithful Protestant, Geraldine attended the Johnstown Reformed Church. Geraldine's involvement with the Tops local #773 and the Rebekah Lodge reflected her commitment to her local community. Geraldine was employed at Swaney Glove's for many years located in Johnstown. She was a friendly neighbor, cherished friend, and revered family matriarch, her loss will be deeply felt. Yet, her example of a life well-lived, steeped in love and devoted to faith, will remain a guiding light for all who knew her.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, with Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.

Memorial donations in Geraldines memory may be made to Topps or a charity of one's choice.
