Geraldine (Gerry) Frances Wixon, age 82, of Mecosta, passed away June 29, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.
Gerry was born in Lakeview on January 22, 1942, the daughter of Theo and Violet (Stevens) Beemer. She married Terry Wixon on October 26, 1958. Gerry graduated from Chippewa Hills Adult Education, taught herself upholstery though mail order classes to help make ends meet in the early years of their marriage. She also taught upholstery at Chippewa Hills as a night class. Gerry played a big part in starting the Barryton Lilac festival and helped run it for many years. She coached girls softball and was a Brownie leader. Terry and Gerry owned and operated the 3 generation Wixon and Dean Supermarket until 1996. After closing the supermarket, Terry and Gerry opened their home to over 100 children with the foster care system. Gerry's all time favorite pastime was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love for children was next to none.
Gerry is survived by her children: Cheryl (Brian) Douglass, Laurie (Matt) Bellinger, Janet Eldridge, Tammy (Aaron) Todd, Darin Wixon, Kim (Joe) Parks, Jami Wixon, Missy Wixon, Jeff Wixon, Rob Wixon, Desi (Patty) Cates and Zeke (Ahkarree) Draper. Grandchildren: Tara, Michael, Shawna, Brandi, Bryon, Diona, Kira, Afton, Aaron Jr, Jeremy, Rachel, Alan, Constance, Anastasia, Lillian, Mia, Landen, Paxton, Lukas, Lyric, Maddax, Anthony, Liam, Elijah, Amarra, Avaleyne and Aaliyah. Great grandchildren: Michael, Kayelynn, Mason, Maddox, Dakota, Dawson, Rukyah, Omar, Kandace, Kailey, Joseph, Kruze, Madalynn, Connor, Charlotte, Sid, Gabe, Jude, Raya, Roman, Kurstyn, Addison, Ionia and Lucas. Brothers: Billy (Bill) and Dennis, brother-in-law Robert (Cindy), sister-in-laws Donna, Pat and Lenna Vee and several nieces and nephews.
Gerry is preceded in death by her husband Terry, parents Theo and Violet, parent-in-laws Albert and Hazel (Dean) Wixon, brothers Clyle, Bernell, Vernon, sisters Lorna, Bonnie, Beverly, Nancy, Audrey. Brother-in-laws Almy, Ed, Don, David, Bruce and Wally. Sister-in-laws Sharon, Joann and Anita. Son-in-law Bruce Eldridge and granddaughters Amy Jo and Airianna.
Cremation has taken place at Daisy Hill Crematory, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan
A memorial in honor of Gerry's life will take place on Sunday July 28, 2024 at 4:00 pm at the Barryton Community Center located at 3265 20th Mile Rd, Barryton, MI 49305 with Dave Jewell officiating. Celebration of life dinner to follow prepared by the Ladies of the Free Methodist Church.
