Gordon E. Wixon, 96, of Monument Beach, passed away peacefully at Keystone Place in Buzzards Bay on July 30, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ellen Wixon.
Gordon served in the United States Army during Vietnam and Korea, served in the United States Air Force and the Massachusetts Air National Guard. His years of service in the military was 41 years. Most of his career was working at Otis Air National Guard Base as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 and then as a Master Sergeant. His military decorations included a World War II victory medal, a Korean Service medal, and a United Nations Service medal. Gordon was also the captain of the volunteer fire fighters for the Town of Bourne for many years.
Gordon met the love of his life, Mary Gibbs, at the Bourne Mill on Cape Cod. The two were instantly inseparable and later married in 1956 and started a family of their own. He was also a faithful parishioner for many years at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset.
Gordon loved to travel and enjoyed several cruises with Mary and the family. He had a passion for keeping his home's landscape in pristine condition. More than anything, Gordon adored spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The last nine months of his life, he lived at Keystone Place of Buzzards Bay. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there and loved the entire staff. Gordon also appreciated his care from Beacon Hospice during the final weeks of his life.
Gordon is survived by his daughters Kathy Andrade, and her husband Timothy, of Monument Beach, MA, and Irene Sundquist, and her husband Brian, of Monument Beach, MA; his grandchildren, Eric Sundquist and wife Meghan, of Monument Beach, MA, Kevin Sundquist, of Monument Beach, MA, Jenna Sundquist, of Arvada, CO, and his great granddaughter Elise Marie Sundquist of Monument Beach, MA.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday August 4, 2024 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RTE 151), in Mashpee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday August 5, 2024 at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd., in Pocasset. A burial will follow at 12:30pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., in Bourne.
