Ferrey, Gerran E. It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gerran Ferrey, in his 64th year, at his home in Plymouth Michigan, on January 25, 2023.

Son of Allan and the late (2010) Anne Ferrey of Burlington, Ontario.  Loving husband of Margaret Chadwick and dear father to Edward and Catherine, brother of Catherine (Don) Woodman, brother-in-law to Helen (John) Ecker and John (Brenda) Chadwick.

Gerrran grew up in Sudbury and Toronto, Ontario and studied business at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. It’s there where he met Margaret, the love of his life and future wife. Upon graduation (B.Com) Gerran joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and served his country in the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Navy in numerous postings including CFB Petawawa, CFB Esquimalt and Namibia (United Nations). In 1992, with the rank of Captain, Gerran received his voluntary discharge from the CAF.

Gerran’s military training and expertise led him to pursue a career in logistics. For 30 years he worked for C.H. Robinson, a worldwide leader in supply chain and logistics management services.  He managed major corporate offices in Detroit, Miami and Montreal.  He enjoyed a well-deserved reputation as a top financial performer and possessed a genuine talent in identifying and cultivating future company leaders. Gerran retired from C.H. Robinson in 2022.

Gerran and Margaret made Plymouth Michigan their home and it’s there where they raised their children and developed numerous lifelong friendships.

Family was most important, and nothing gave Gerran more pleasure than time at the cottage with them. Gerran had spent much of his youth in Ontario’s cottage country and his passion for the place was infectious. He taught the family how to water ski and instilled a passion for boating, canoeing, sailing, skating, snowmobiling, and so many other outdoor activities at the lake.

Whether leading his teams in the Army, C.H. Robinson, or boating at the lake, Gerran had a way to make life feel so sweet. His limitless energy, positive attitude and heart-warming smile made him such a joy to be around. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Gerran was looking forward to a retirement that included more time with his children and travels with Margaret. Sadly, Gerran died suddenly at home while clearing snow after a recent storm.

The family will be hosting two celebrations of Gerran’s life. A visitation and memorial celebration will be held at the Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home, 2241 New St., Burlington, Ontario, on Wednesday February 1, 2023. Visitation at 3:00 pm, celebration of life at 4:45 pm.  A visitation and memorial service will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral home, 280 South Main St., Plymouth, Michigan, on Friday February 3, 2023. Visitation at 4:00 pm, followed by memorial service at 6:00 pm.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Gerran greatly appreciated to the Kawartha Land Trust at kawarthalandtrust.org or the American Heart Association at www.heart.org

The Ferrey cottage was just down the shore from our home at Kawartha Park Marina. Early mornings would usually show Gerran shooting down the lake to see a friend. Our Son Craig met Gerran at KP Marina when they were both 12. A lifelong friendship has been enjoyed between the two of them since. It is a great sadness that we will all just have to learn to live with and remember him with love and friendship.

I have so many great memories to hold on to of our time spent with Gerran. He was a formidable leader, mentor and friend. He taught us so much and challenged the way we think. He left an indelible mark on our hearts and in our minds. There are very few people in the world that can leave behind the incredible legacy that Gerran did. My heart goes out to his beautiful family who he absolutely adored.
Gerran we will never forget you and we will honor you by keeping it going strong here in Canada so that your legacy lives on. Rest in peace dear friend.

So sad to hear of Gerran's unexpected passing. He was a very unique individual. Many fond memories growing up on Stoney Lake and seeing Gerran zipping by in his boat off on a mission somewhere. His passion for all things family, work and fun should be an inspiration to us all.
Our condolences to Margaret, Edward, Catherine ,sister Catherine and his father Allan.

Gerran was the ultimate go-getter. A man who could lead any team to success with his ability to spot and develop talent.

He accepted any challenge, and never failed to rise to the occasion. He held high standards; always pushing people to be the best version of themselves, and took pride in watching his team excel.

I always admired how fearless, genuine and unapologetic he was. With Gerran, you always got the truth.

I will miss his stories, words of wisdom and contagious passion for life.

Sending my deepest condolences to Margaret, Edward and Catherine. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and I wish you strength and courage during this difficult time.

Gerran always had something to do, someplace to be and someone to see.
I am glad that he always took a moment to stop by my desk with his wonderful smile to say "hello and hey what's up?".
We would chat a bit and then he would be "ok see you later" and be off.

He filled each moment of his life with the most that he could.
He loved talking about his family and was so proud of them.
My deepest condolences to Margaret, Edward, Catherine and all his family and friends.
Thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

My sincere condolences to all of Gerran's family. I was deeply saddened by this news. I could write a whole chapter on how he mentored me through the first year of my career but that would only be a small part of his impact on me. His passion for life, friendship and family was genuine and unwavering. Rest in peace my friend.

Gerran was always great to shoot the breeze with. Full of energy. We would always discuss recent camping and hiking trips, experiences exploring Quebec, where he's been, and where he'll go. He always had a story, and it was clear he led a very colourful and rich life. He was a brilliant man and a true leader. My condolences to his family and loved ones.

First and foremost, heartfelt wishes to Margret and the kids, you are in A LOT of hearts and prayers in this difficult time I promise you. Gerran was a GREAT mentor, but more importantly a friend to so many. Boy, could he give it to you STRAIGHT, but you ALWAYS knew that he was coming from a place of wanting you to be better! A LEADER in every sense of the word. I could always go to Gerran with business related questions, and he´d be spot on, but what I will miss most is just talking to him about life, kids, boats, lakes, where to go and what to do on a vacation...

I know I speak for A LOT of people when I say it is a great honor to be in the "Gerran Family Tree" at CH Robinson... what a legacy he´s left... Rest (he never did) in Peace G-Man!
