Glen F. Verdegan, 94, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He was born in Kewaunee, Wisconsin on March 12, 1930, to Charles and Getrude (Crabb) Verdegan. Like his siblings, Glen grew up working odd jobs, such as a Door County cherry picker and pinsetter at the local bowling alley, to help support the family during the depression. He graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1948 as an All-Conference athlete in football, boxing, and baseball. While serving in the Air Force in Waco, TX during the Korean War, he met his future wife, Rosalee "Rose" Soukup, at a 4th of July picnic in nearby West, TX and they were married on November 19, 1953. Glen worked as a carpenter for his father-in-law Frank Soukup until graduation from Baylor University in 1957 with a BBA degree. He started his career as a supervisor for Owens Illinois Glass Company in TX, OH and MI, becoming a general foreman and plant manager for International Paper in Fond du Lac and Maryland. After retiring from IP, he worked for local businesses including Brooke Industries, Fond du Lac Chamber of Commerce, and Sterling Custom Homes. Glen was active in the Knights of Columbus, hospice, Town of Fond du Lac Fire Dept., St. Vincent de Paul, Fondy Booster Club, and other service organizations. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, bowler, Packer, and Brewer fan.
Glen is survived by his five children: Barry (Debbie) Verdegan of Stoughton, WI, Karen (Norm) Knott of Dunlap, TN, Mark Verdegan of Milwaukee, WI, Colby (Joan) Verdegan of Fridley, MN and Gail Baxter of Germantown, WI; nine grandchildren: Dan (Irene) Verdegan and Lori (Erik Slusser) Verdegan, Micah Knott (Rachael Newberry), John (Kayla ) Knott and Sarah Knott (Kaleb Pollock), Calvin Verdegan, Brittany Baxter, Bethany (Eric) Hasse, and JP Baxter; one great grandson Niko Verdegan; sister-in-law Mary Rose Verdegan; other relatives and friends.
Glen was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Rose; his parents; a grandson Dominic Jon Lavigne; and nine brothers and two sisters.
Glen's family invites friends and relatives to a time of visitation on Saturday, August 31, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, N8079 Church Rd, Malone, WI 53049. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place following Mass at the parish cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Sr. Marianna, the staff of St. Francis Home and SSM Hospice for their patient, loving, and compassionate care of Glen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Family Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Fond du Lac County, or other charity of your choice.
