Glenn L. Baughman, age 94, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, after a brief time in hospice at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois.

Born on April 26, 1931, in Dover, Pennsylvania, to Nelson M. and Carrie Edna (Gerber) Baughman, Glenn graduated from Dover High School in 1949 and Gettysburg College in 1953. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps through 1955 before earning his Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Pennsylvania State University in 1961—a loyal Nittany Lion for life.

He began his career as a research chemist with Armstrong Cork Company in 1955. In 1956, he married his college sweetheart, Madeline Albright, beginning a loving partnership that lasted 67 years. After completing his doctorate, Glenn worked for DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware, and later for PPG Industries in Barberton, Ohio, where he remained until his retirement in 1989. Glenn and Madeline made their home in Wadsworth, Ohio, where they raised their two sons and built lifelong friendships they cherished.

Glenn loved his family deeply. He was patient, gentle, and encouraging—always present for his sons’ concerts and performances from grade school through college. Known affectionately as a “band dad,” he was admired for his kindness, integrity, and quiet strength.

A lifelong learner and avid reader, Glenn rekindled his love of music later in life. Inspired by his sons, he picked up his trumpet again, took lessons, and performed with community ensembles including the Medina Community Band, Kent State University Community Band, and Wadsworth Community Band.

He was a longtime member of First Congregational Church of Akron, where he volunteered in the food kitchen serving those in need.

In 2024, Glenn moved from Northeast Ohio to live with his son Philip and family in Skokie, Illinois. He never lost his wit, warmth, or love of a good story. He delighted in time with his grandchildren, enjoyed reading biographies and history, cheering for Penn State football, taking walks with the family dog, Penny—and ending the day with a dish of ice cream.

Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Madeline. He is survived by his sons Philip (Allison) of Skokie, Illinois, and Stephen (Deborah Yracheta) of Long Beach, California; and grandchildren Noah and Lily Baughman of Skokie.

In keeping with his wishes, no immediate memorial service is planned. His remains will be interred at Salem Union Cemetery in Dover, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Glenn’s memory.
