Glenn Lamar Hembree, affectionately known as "Wild Man," a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, in Newnan, Georgia, at the age of 80. Born on January 31, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia, Glenn lived a life full of service, grit, and laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rainey and Irene Coleman Hembree, and his brother, Roger Hembree. Glenn is survived by his daughter, Brooke Martin, and her husband Joe of Asheville, North Carolina; his sisters, Jeanette Fowler of Douglasville, Georgia, and Harriett Davenport and her husband Tom, also of Douglasville; as well as four nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
A proud veteran, Glenn served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.
Glenn was a hard-working entrepreneur who owned and operated Apple Grading, a land grading and excavation business. He also spent several years as a fuel man with a NASCAR pit crew and ran a busy auto body shop.
Beyond his work and service, Glenn will be remembered most for his infectious laughter and gift for storytelling. He had a magnetic presence and an unmatched ability to light up a room. Glenn had lived a full and adventurous life, and he loved to share it-often through stories that were as hilarious as they were heartfelt. His tales left everyone laughing and wanting more. He lived big, laughed often, and brought that joy to those around him.
This obituary also serves as official notice to the Georgia State Patrol: Wild Man has officially retired-he's no longer on the run.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 2 o'clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 o'clock until 8 o'clock and again one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Parrott Funeral Home and Crematory.
