Gloria Jean Anderson (Jackson), born in Red River, LA to Ruth Williams and Garrett Jackson, lost a hard-fought battle to COPD and heart failure on April 15, 2023 at the age of 86 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH. Gloria retired in 1994 as a federal government employee from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. She had a tenacious spirit, which most either loved or hated to love, and was known for her wild sense of humor. She was also an avid sports fan; The Ohio State Buckeyes (NCAA Football), the Dallas Cowboys (NFL), and the LA Lakers (NBA) were her favorite teams to watch. She was the BEST cook, mostly known for her ox-tail recipe that would have family members fighting to be the first to sit at her table. Bid-Whist was her favorite card game, and rarely could anyone stop her and the partner she had across from her, normally her brother, Billy. Western television shows or movies were primarily what she watched with Perry Mason thrown in every now and then for good measure. She was very intelligent and spent most days working on difficult crossword puzzles, and heaven forbid anyone attempt to watch Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune with her – she would beat every contestant to the correct answer and solve puzzles so fast; it was amazing! Her handwriting was so impressive, it would put any master calligraphist to shame. Conversation with Gloria was always inspiring, to say it nicely. Sometimes you would walk away laughing, sometimes in tears, sometimes both, but always feeling better for having taken the time to just sit down and gain some of her motherly wisdom. She will be dearly missed by everyone who has ever crossed her path. She is survived by two sons: Ronald Jackson and Dwight Anderson; siblings: Billy Jackson, Rose Hamilton, Tommy Jackson, and Freddie Jackson; honorary son: Michael Huff (Carolyn); honorary daughter: Joella Cox; ten grandchildren: LaShawn Capito (Charles), Danielle Jackson, Toni-Lynn Cannon, Kenneth Hatfield, Aleisia Black, Yakeyna Jones (Robert), Acacia Leasure (Marc), Tatiauna Anderson, Kasee Cannon, and Katee Cannon; fourteen great-grandchildren: JaeQuan Capito (Elizabeth), Morgan Jackson, Ethan Hatfield, Leianna Hatfield, Samirah Subair, Sorayah Subair, Jayvion Steward, Tony Dunn, Jr., Riley Jones, Raea Jones, Braelyn Mosley, Cameron Mosley, Aaliyah Leasure, and T'Kai Jones; one great-great-grandchild: Samra Capito; and a host of other close family and friends (honorable mention to Willie Brown, Sandy Williams and Cheryl Brown-Perry). She is preceded in death by her parents and two sons: Tony Cannon and Homer Anderson. Family and friends may gather at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. CHAPEL 1346 S. High St. on Saturday, April 29 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow immediately at Fernwood Cemetery.

So sorry to hear of Gloria's passing. Condolences to all who knew her as she was very special.
We worked together at the MA Office. And, longtime friends after that. She loved her boys. Glad she is at peace.
